I’m with you, girls, on the odd names (I have always loved the names Piper and Willow, but…Track? Trig? There better be a good explanation for this, missy), the curiosity about the adoption aspect of Bristol’s pregnancy (another huge part of the teen pregnancy issue in this country — and worldwide), and the skepticism about Palin’s readiness for office. That last one is what I was going to comment a little more about, actually; after hearing from Alaskans like that blogger and your brother, Steph, it seems like she might not be the greatest VP choice.
However! I will say that
(1) she is not running for president, and maybe McCain’s competency (or lack thereof? When I’m being honest, I don’t quite know) could make up for her lack of experience with issues that affect non-Alaskan areas
(2) her acceptance speech and general presence in the election have visibly emboldened those head-firmly-set-on-shoulders Republicans who’d, until now, been ashamed of their position in the wake of Dubya’s terms (two! Two of them!) and Obama’s sexy rockstar moves. I like Palin, at the very least, for making this election more human-looking on both sides.
And now, on to other things…like SHOES!
I now work at my favorite store, which is a dream come true in many ways — not the least of which is that now I’m paid to keep up with the big trends for fall (as opposed to having to keep this hobby of mine a secret to myself
). Whilst perusing the trend of boots of all sizes and shapes (see here for the most helpful lowdown), I came across the boot(ie?) that dreams are made of…well, mine anyway:
The sleek shape! The pop of blue at the top! Sigh…I love it. Too bad it’s Marc Jacobs and costs $455 at the very least. Well, a girl can dream. I do think I’ll get some sort of pair of boots, though; glad that trend has finally made its way across the Atlantic! (I was in London for spring break, and I actually felt silly walking around without boots. That’s right, silly. In sensible flats. I thought maybe it was the crazy Brits, but it appears that everyone digs the boots! So now’s my chance to rock ‘em.)
I promise my life isn’t becoming complete empty-headed nonsense. I’m babysitting tonight, yahoo!

LOVE the *bow chick a bow wow* music, especially since while i’m reading this, i’m coincidentally listening to low-rider.
and, on the Palin issue, my brother also did say that she’s very sharp, and has a very high approval rating, he just works in the oil business, so he’s a bit ticked off about that particular issue. but other than that, she’s pretty great.
and we need to hang out soon, it’s been too long.
1) Trig is okay because it least means “strong” or something similar in Old Norse. Not a bad thing to name a boy, especially a boy who will have to be strong most of his life, eh? Track, on the other hand…
2) Those shoes are AMAZING.
3) Also, you need to come to Austin.
Hi! I was surfing and found your blog post… nice! I love your blog.
Cheers! Sandra. R.
